[Video] Meet Morgan Brian: Gatorade’s 2011 Female Athlete of the Year

As a recently graduated high school senior, attacking center midfielder Morgan Brian already has career stats that any soccer pro would envy. This past spring season she led her high school, Fredericka Academy in St. Simons, Georgia, to a 17-2-1 record and a fourth straight Georgia Independent School Association Class AA state title. Her contribution included 71 goals and 30 assists.

In addition to a stellar high school career, Morgan led the Ponte Vedra U-18 Storm to a U.S. Youth Soccer Region III Premiere League title and a U.S. Youth Soccer Florida State Cup title. She’s also been a member of the US Soccer National Team from  U-14 through U-20, becoming captain at age 18; a Parade Magazine and ESPN Rise High School All-American; and a National Soccer Coaches High School All-American to list just a few of the many soccer honors that have already been bestowed upon her.

But soccer accolades don’t tell the whole story. Morgan graduated high school with a career cumulative 3.84 GPA and was Class President from 2008-10. And her extensive community work includes co-creating the Many Hearts, One Goal Foundation to bring the displaced Haitian U-17 soccer team to Florida for training.

How she has been able to accomplish so much, so well and with such consistency Morgan attributes to “good time management that I learned from my parents”. It’s no wonder she was selected to receive Gatorade’s prestigious 2011 Athlete of the Year Award from among a group of equally impressive nominees. But Morgan is no stranger to stiff competition. She’s shown that she knows how to rise to a challenge. Later this summer she’ll be heading off to the University of Virginia to start playing college soccer. For Morgan Brian this will be the beginning of another challenging chapter in an already remarkable career. And make no mistake, she’s up for the challenge.
