Daredevil motocross rider Travis Pastrana (27) proposed to longtime girlfriend Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins (21). The X Games multi-gold medalist got down on one knee to ask the pro skateboarder’s hand in marriage during Nitro Circus Live, an exhibition motocross event held at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night, June 4.
Pastrana interrupted the in-house announcer for the surprise proposal after Lyn-Z rolled down the Giganta Ramp and slid out on her landing. “Sorry to interrupt the show, everyone, but I have to do something. My family is here and the love of my life is standing down there,” he said as pointing down at his girlfriend from the top of the ramp.
After sliding down the ramp himself, Travis took the mic to ask, “Lyn-Z, will you marry me?” The roar of 10,000 spectators added adrenaline to the moment as Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” provided a soundtrack to the couple’s first kiss as an engaged couple. “Ladies” the announcer added, “Travis is off the market, officially”. He sealed the deal by presenting his fiance a plastic coin purse shaped like a cupcake containing the engagement ring.
Pastrana has jumped out of a plane without a parachute and achieved a world record for his ascent of Mount Washington in a car, but it was the prospect of proposing which caused the star of MTV’s Nitro Circus to battle a case of butterflies. He told the audience that he initially planned to propose at the end of the show, but was to nervous to wait. “This is a stunt that’s going to last the rest of our lives,” he added.
After the proposal, Pastrana went on with Cam Sinclair to perform the world’s first synchronized FMX double back flip.
Floating on the double thrills of the night, Pastrana joined his Nitro Circus crew and fans to continue the party at the illustrious Studio 54 nightclub. There, the 27-year-old motocross rider conducted a 100-person champagne toast and presented his new fiancee with a dozen roses.
