Fave female athletes nominated for tonight’s Kid’s Choice Awards on Nickleodeon include:
At 16 this female speed racer moved to England to pursue race car driving. She has a slew of spectacular achievements on her resume including leading the Indy 500 race in 2005 for several laps and winning the Indy Japan 300, a record for women drivers. She also placed third on the 2009 Indy 500, a career high. Danica just might ride off with a KCA this year.
Fun Fact: Danica started go-karting at 10 and won several World Karting Association Championships.
Misty May Treanor
Misty May Treanor grew up playing beach volleyball. In high school, she helped her team win two state championships and in 1994 she was named USA Today’s best girl volleyball player in the nation. Misty and partner, Kerri Walsh dominated the beach volleyball courts at the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics and came home with gold medals. Sports Illustrated named them the “Top Olympians of the Decade.” Misty has won more career tournaments that any other female beach volleyball player and she could get served with the 2010 KCA for Favorite Female Athlete.
Fun Fact: Her nickname is Turtle.
One half of the tennis phenomenon known as the Williams Sisters, Serena is the number one ranked female tennis player in the world and holds 20 Grand Slam titles (singles, doubles and mixed doubles). She designs her own clothing line, Aneres, (her name spelled backwards) and even acts in her spare time, recording the voice of characters in cartoons like Nick’s own Avatar: The Last Airbender. Is there anything Serena can’t do?
Fun Fact: Serena was “Punk’d” not once but twice on the popular MTV show.
Taking the tennis world by storm back in the late ’90s with her younger sister Serena, Venus is the number eight female tennis player in the world. She was the first woman to win an Olympic gold medal in singles and doubles (with Serena) since 1924. Venus has won nine Grand Slam titles (singles, doubles, mixed doubles). With tennis, her own clothing line and an interior design firm, she has her hands full. But she might have to make room for a blimp.
Fun Fact: Venus holds the record for the fastest serve by a woman in a main event: 130 mph at the Zurich Open.
