March Madness: The Ogwumike sisters  played an outstanding game against Gonzaga helping Stanford advance to its fourth straight Final Four. Junior Nnemkadi Ogwumike dominated the inside with 23 points and 11 rebounds while younger sister Chiney had her best game as a Cardinal with 18 points and 15 boards. The Zags didn’t guard Chiney when she was on the perimeter and she wisely started taking the ball to the rim.Stanford (33-2) won its 27th straight to match the longest streak in school history and will face Baylor or Texas A&M in the 2011 national semifinals on Sunday night.

Chiney Ogwumike, the No. 1 recruiting prospect last year, chose the Cardinal over Connecticut and Notre Dame and is clearly enjoying the ride.

The daughter of Nigerian immigrants who firmly emphasize the importance of education, Ogwumike said she wants to study some combination of law, business, policy and communications at Stanford. There are two younger Ogwumike sisters — Erica, 13, and Olivia, 14 — who also play basketball.

When 2010 Parade High School Player of the Year Chiney arrived at Stanford last fall, she and Nneka – 2010 Pac 10 Player of the Year – embarked on a journey to become the best sibling duo ever to play Division I basketball together. Chiney was named the 2009-10 Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year and with the award, the sisters became the only sibling duo to ever win the national title — male or female — in the history of the program. Chiney went on to win the prestigious Gatorade Female High School Athlete of the Year.

Not only is Chiney a star on the court, she’s beautiful,  poised and articulate off the court as well.  Take a look at this interview, recorded shortly before she started playing for Stanford.  Surely you’ll become part of her growing fan club.
