When we were invited last month to join Under Armour for a workout at the Siren Studios in Hollywood, Calif. we were stoked. Pretty Tough author Keri Mikulski was in town doing research for an upcoming book (mark your calendars – ‘Making Waves’ is slated for March 2012) so she got a lucky last minute invite.
Not only did we get to see the new Under Armour women’s collection – including the highly touted charged cotton garments – we got to put the new line to the test. Our personalized lockers contained a gym bag filled with everything we needed for the workout including a sports bra, a pair of capris, tank top, socks and running shoes. We were joined by Gossip Girl star Jessica Szohr (who played Vanessa on the hit TV show) looking great with her blown–out hair and trim body. Keeping herself in shape in the off-season, Szohr was mum about her departure from GG and where we’ll see her next.
Four different workout stations were set up on the studio rooftop so, under a bright blue sky overlooking the iconic Hollywood sign in the nearby hills, we split into small groups and were coached by Gunnar Peterson and his crew of trainers. It was a hot morning and the trainers pushed us hard (“sweat is your body crying for mercy”) but we worked through resistance exercises, aerobics, strength and endurance, and more.
After the grueling workout, there was a fresh smoothie bar (yum!) and a healthy spread of yogurt, granola and fruit. Keri and I had the chance to chat with Peterson about clients such as Minka Kelly, Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry as well Boston-based trainer Walter Norton Jr. who keeps Ben Affleck and his wife Jennifer Garner in shape.
Senior Marketing Director for Under Armour Adrienne Lofton was in town for the event and the former collegiate volleyball player demonstrated that she’s still in great shape. Look for new product this fall.
