Spoiler Alert: Great sweepstakes info at the end of this post! First, an update on my workout progress.

I love the way I feel after  completing my Nike workout. I feel accomplished, motivated, and ready to take on the rest of my day. The emotional benefits are awesome but I love how I feel on a physical level as well, I love the pain and soreness. The happy ache that hurts when I laugh. This lets me know my hard work is paying off. In fact, I’m just halfway through my six week plan and  I can already see some results. I definitely look more toned and my body – especially my abs –  feels tighter.  Even if no one notices my physical progress just yet, the confidence I’ve gained and my “get me to the pool I want to show off my bikini” mentality is priceless. For now, however, you’ll have to settle for a pic of me in my workout gear by the pool. Stay tuned for the bangin’ bikini shots.

Nike Training Club

In college last year, my daily workout consisted of 45 minutes on an elliptical in the dorm gym.  At the time, I thought I was working all my major muscles (all while multi-tasking by catching up on magazines and/or TV).  Compared to the Nike workout downloaded to my iTouch, however, I now know I couldn’t be more wrong. The elliptical is SO boring! So repetitive! I don’t know how I was able to do the same workout  over and over again…I would always see weights tucked away in the corner of the gym, but it never occurred to me to use them. I always thought weights were for guys to bulk up and pack on pounds of muscle. And as a 19-year-old girl, I didn’t want to look like a pro body builder…The Nike workout teaches me how to use weights, but in a very controlled way adding tone rather than bulk.

The best part of the Nike Training Club so far  is the variation between exercises. During the 30-minute workout,  I do a little bit of everything – cardio, weights, flexibility, etc. There is never too much of one exercise. I promise you this workout is FAR from boring (it may not be easy but it’s definitely not boring).

During the  “Wipeout” workout I definitely felt my core being tested. With exercises like planks, side planks, Crazy Ivans, and Russian Twists, my core got that 360 degree workout it’s not used to. This was my first time doing Crazy Ivans and I’d be lying if I said they weren’t tough. Very similar to a Russian Twist, Crazy Ivans require a medicine ball, but the real difference between the two exercises is that the Crazy Ivans require more mental strength (the ability to stop midway through the exercise and hold the position) than the Russian Twists. I love trying (and loving) new exercises that I can add to my daily workout and this one is now part of my regular repertoire.
