“I want to run,” is what 20-year-old Sarah (Sophie Desmarais) tells everyone, including her highly doubtful mom, when asked what she wants out of life. And so, after excelling on her Quebec City track squad, Sarah decides to pack up her stuff and move, along with guy friend Antoine, to Montreal, where she’ll be training for the big leagues as a member of the McGill Athletics Team.

Sarah Prefers to Run’, about a young woman’s singlular pursuit of a goal,  tackles the anxieties of an athlete who lives only for the race.   If the set-up seems like your typical triumph-over-tears sports story, director Chloe Robichaud definitely has something else in mind, and once Sarah and Antoine arrive in town, the story shifts to focus on Sarah’s shaky personal life, including her burgeoning attraction to a fellow teammate. But only after she and Antoine decide to get married for financial aid purposes.

The French-Canadian film, which world-premiered earlier this summer in Cannes,  has been acquired by distribution platform Film Festival Flix for the U.S. The company will open Sarah as part of its Film Festival Flix theatrical series monthly film series that enables audiences to interact with filmmakers and actors, as well as in limited release next spring.

Will you see it? Would you do anything to run??

Cast: Sophie Desmarais, Jean-Sebastien Courchesne, Genevieve Boivin-Roussy
