Avril Lavigne’s “Fly” Supports Special Olympics

Avril Lavigne, who recently revealed she’s battling Lyme disease, is determined to send a strong, inspirational message to her many fans around the globe.

The Canadian singer debuted her latest track, “Fly,” during a guest appearance on Good Morning America and announced that all of the net proceeds will go to the Special Olympics.

“I wanted the athletes to be the stars of the video and, just like the message of the song, to show the world that they can overcome the challenges and that everyone is meant to shine,” she shared.

Referring to Lyme disease, the 30-year-old said, “I believe that I will come out of this healthier and stronger than I was before…I’ve gained a lot of perspective on my life.”

While the singer was bedridden for five months, her home became the perfect environment to create, and focus on, new music.  “Fly” is about inner strength and courage.

“This song took on a whole new meaning for me while I was sick, which was pretty magical.”

The acoustic-driven ballad combines clips of the star singing the emotional track with athletes both in training and competition – and it’s incredibly moving.

Avril belts out: “We were all meant to fly, spread your wings across the universe. It’s your time to, it’s your time to shine.

“There’s a light inside of all of us, soon you’ll find that it’s your time to fly, your time to fly.”

Love her. Love the song.
