Arthur Ashe Kids Day

Thanks to Irene, Jason Derulo, Diggy Simmons and Cody Simpson are among the performers who will NOT be performing at the much anticipated Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center this weekend. Boo Irene.

The annual kick off to  the 2011 US Open usually features  favorite tennis stars & the latest musical sensations.Past performers include Justin Bieber, The Jonas Bros., Demi Lovato, Jordin Sparks

An update on the event site states:
In light of the current forecast regarding Hurricane Irene, and in order to avoid any possible safety issues for our fans and patrons, many of whom would have been arriving on-site with young children, the USTA is cancelling Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day.

This decision also follows discussions held between the USTA and New York City officials. The event was scheduled to take place  Saturday, August 27, from 9:30 am to 4 pm. This cancellation covers both the free ground activities scheduled for the morning, and the ticketed Stadium show that was scheduled for 1 p.m – 3pm. The USTA’s inclement weather policy for Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day will be in effect and can be viewed at www.arthurashekidsday.com.

CBS plans to air a highlights show featuring the best of previous Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day performances along with select pre-taped elements from 2011. The program is scheduled to air Sunday, August 28, from 12 noon to 1:30 pm ET.
