24 Hour Fitness Terminates Varsity Program

24 Hour Fitness ends varsity program

24 Hour Fitness ends varsity program

After a year of working out at 24 Hour Fitness, I was upset to see this email:

Dear Varsity Program Participant:

24 Hour Fitness has always believed in the value of student athletic programs in teaching young athletes the importance of teamwork and of setting meaningful goals. Over the past few years, we have been proud to provide free after school access to our clubs for high school varsity athletes in our communities.

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts to sustain this program, we have had to make the difficult decision to discontinue our Varsity Program for next year.

We are truly sorry for any disappointment this may bring. We hope our low membership rates will enable you to remain a part of our 24 Hour Fitness community. Click here to see current membership specials.

We remain committed to changing lives in the communities we serve and will continue to seek ways to support high school teams through equipment donations.

Yours in Fitness,

The 24 Hour Fitness Team

Granted, the rules and regs for the Varsity program were limited – e.g the after-school hours weren’t always convenient – but I did enjoy working out at the club when I could. I also liked the fact that the company supported student-athletes and felt it was smart PR to build brand awareness and loyalty with young adults. Not sure if this new policy is nationwide – or it just applies to my gym – but I’m pretty sure I won’t be checking out the membership specials.  Does it really cost them that much more to have a handful of high school kids on the treadmills during off hours?  I have a bad taste in my mouth for 24Hour Fitness right now.

Any suggestions for alternative gyms or workouts?
