Protein is like a handyman for your body. No other nutrient plays as many different roles in keeping us alive and functioning.
I’ve taken more than enough science classes to know that proteins are made up of 20 essential amino acids.
And I’ve have been a vegetarian for enough time to hear the nosey but genuinely curious question, “So how exactly do you get your protein…?” at every burger boppin barbecue. (In case you’re dying to know legumes such as beans, peas and nuts are loaded with proteins.)
I’ll admit, being an athlete and a vegetarian is somewhat of a struggle. While it is by NO means impossible, I do find it harder than others to give my body the protein it needs.
Protein is essential for the growth and repair of muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments. Protein also creates the antibodies necessary for our immune system to fight and beat off infections. As an athlete working out 30+ hours a week – pushing my muscles and body to the edge – I need myself to be in tip top condition. We athletes need a handyman for our body to replenish our tired muscles from yesterday’s workout.
With that said, I am excited to participate in Muscle Milk Protein Nutrition Shake workout challenge. For the next week I will complete a series of workouts from trainer Jen Cohen , and after each workout I will drink and test the protein and vitamin enriched Muscle Milk shake.
Stay tuned because on July 25 I will post my findings!
