NY Liberty StencilsHalloween is upon us. Are you getting ready to deck out your place with cobwebs, witches and zombies? Well, get psyched because if you’re a WNBA fan the New York Liberty is ready to add to your holiday fun.

Check out the team’s very special custom Liberty Pumpkin Stencils. You can carve the WNBA team into your Halloween jack o’ lantern with four fabulous designs.

Instructions:

1) Cut out a lid in the top of the pumpkin large enough to fit your hand and a spoon inside.
2) Add a small notch in the back of the lid. The notch will remind you how the lid is positioned, allow smoke and heat to escape, and ensure that
the candle receives enough air to remain lit.
3) Scoop out the pulp and seeds. Retain the seeds for roasting.
4) Scrape the inside of the pumpkin in the area where you’ll be using the pattern, until that area is about 1 inch thick.
5) Trim and make small incisions in your pattern so that it lies flat on the face of the pumpkin. Tape the edges of the pattern to the pumpkin.
6) Transfer the pattern by poking small holes along the pattern lines with a drill tool or needle.
7) Remove the pattern.
8) Saw carefully along the dotted lines. Gently push the pieces through with your fingers.
9) Create a glow effect by scraping designs into the shell of your pumpkin with a melon baller, wood gouge or linoleum cutter.
10) Anchor a candle in the bottom of the pumpkin and light the candle.

You’re now ready to display your best jack-o’-lantern ever.

Fever drop Liberty in first game outdoors

Liberty Outdoor ClassicJuly 20, 2008 -(AP) Katie Douglas and the Indiana Fever stole the spotlight – under the moonlight – from the New York Liberty in the WNBA’s first outdoor game.

On a basketball court laid on top of the tennis court at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Douglas scored nine of her 20 points in the fourth quarter, Tamika Catchings had 15 points and nine rebounds, and the Fever (11-11) beat the Liberty 71-55 on Saturday night.

Even though the game was scheduled for a night start in hopes of avoiding the summer sun and heat, the game-time temperature was a steamy 87 degrees. The setting sun was only shining on one corner of the top level of seats, and there was a slight breeze blowing across the court from one corner.

“Probably the biggest thing both teams will have to be concerned about is making sure we stay hydrated,” Catchings said. “Definitely trying to keep your body temperature low.”

Catchings was also part of the first outdoor women’s college game when Tennessee played Arizona State at Bank One Ballpark, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ baseball stadium, on Dec. 27, 2000.

Since opening in 1997, the world’s largest outdoor tennis-only venue has been the main stadium for the U.S. Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. For one night, there was a different ball bouncing on the court in the first outdoor regular-season game in professional basketball history – men’s or women’s.

NY Liberty Outdoor ClassicJuly 18, 2008 – Move over Venus and Serena. The WNBA is taking over center court at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The New York Liberty will make professional basketball history tomorrow, Saturday, July 19, when the team plays host to the Indiana Fever in the WNBA’s first regular-season outdoor game.

In addition to making professional basketball history, the Liberty Outdoor Classic will be the first non-tennis sporting event to take place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens, the largest public outdoor tennis facility in the world.

The Knicks’ court, brought over in 226 pieces, was laid out on the surface at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Thursday. The baskets and scorer’s tables came over later that night after the Liberty’s win against Washington at the Garden.

Saturday’s activities include a FREE pre-game Fan Festival open to the public directly outside of the stadium from 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm, featuring New York Knicks stars David Lee and Nate Robinson with Knicks and Liberty greats John Starks, Allan Houston, Kym Hampton, Teresa Weatherspoon and Sue Wicks. Kids will have the opportunity to enjoy carnival rides, interactive games and win special Liberty prizes.

Following the game, Epic Record’s hot singing group, MENUDO, will perform a concert free for all ticket holders. Be part of sports history – tix available at Ticketmaster or NYLiberty.com

You can also join Liberty Legend Kym Hampton and the Torch Patrol on the CBS Early Show Saturday morning to promote the event. Show up at the corner of 59th and fifth at 7:30AM to be part of the live television experience!
