HERA creates events that utilize climbing & sports to empower women, men and children to take control of their lives and health while helping to raise awareness and funds for ovarian cancer.
HERA was chosen as the name for the foundation because in Greek mythology she was considered the protector of women and empowered women to stand up for themselves. The HERA Foundation’s goal is to do the same; empower women to take control of their health by championing this unrecognized threat to women’s health.
The mission of the HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation is to stop the loss of mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmothers, aunts, wives, partners and girlfriends from ovarian cancer through empowering:
The original Climb for Life event was conceived in 2001, while HERA Founder, Sean Patrick was recovering from her seventh ovarian cancer surgery. She felt a rock climbing event would put a different face on ovarian cancer and get people involved in the cause. Realizing The Climb for Life would raise awareness in women who are healthy and active, Patrick saw greater potential: the event would enable women to be introduced to the sport of climbing, and it’s physical and mental benefits.
HERA events are fun, a place to learn new skills and challenge yourself. To learn more or find an event in your area: HERA Foundation.
