Alex Morgan is a Beast – USWNT Moves on to Gold Medal Match

Nails were bitten to the quick. Voices hoarse from yelling. Heart palpitations no doubt sent soccer fans reaching for their chests.  The United States vs. Canada women’s soccer semifinal in Manchester, England on Monday was about as thrilling as a match could be. Epic really,

In the end, after two overtime periods, Alex Morgan (@alexmorgan13) scored in the 123rd minute to lift the US to a 4-3 win over their neighbors to the north. The Americans now head into the gold medal game against Japan in a much anticipated rematch of last summer’s World Cup final which the Japanese won on penalty kicks.

Canada hasn’t beaten the U.S. since the spring of 2001 but the Canadians came out tough and showed they weren’t going to be intimidated. At the half, Canada was up 1-0 and there was a possibility the U.S. streak might end.

Canada’s Christine Sinclair scored an impressive hat trick during the game and the U.S. had to rally three times to tie the score following her goals, the final time coming in the 80th minute on Abby Wambach’s penalty kick that evened the game at 3-3.

Megan Rapinoe added two goals to the U.S. tally but it was the last-second heroics by Morgan that clinched the game.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Men, women, whatever – this was one of the best soccer matches I’ve ever seen. Still speechless.
